Why Vacations Can Leave Your Body More Tense Than Work

Have you ever come home from vacation feeling like you need a vacation from your vacation?
It sounds strange, but it happens more often than we think.
A vacation may mean a break from work, but your body doesn't necessarily get a break. Long flights, hours in the car, carrying luggage, sleeping in a different bed, walking more than usual, and spending long days on your feet can all add up.

Even if you're having a wonderful time, your body is still adapting to a different routine.
And then there's sleep. Staying up later, waking up earlier, or simply sleeping somewhere unfamiliar can leave you more tired than you realize.
Sometimes the tension doesn't become obvious until you finally stop.
You may notice a stiff neck after a long drive, tight shoulders from carrying bags, a sore lower back after a flight, or legs that feel heavier after days of walking.
And sometimes there isn't even a specific ache. You just feel... tired.

I've heard people say, "I didn't realize how tense I was until I got home."
I think that's one of the funny things about vacations. We can be mentally relaxed while our bodies are still working hard.
So if you come home from a wonderful trip feeling more tired than rested, don't assume you did vacation wrong.

Maybe your body just needs a little time to catch up.
